We started off the session understanding that Big Data informs what has happened on a big scale, to help inform the best possible next step. It does seem that Big Data could already be a dated topic, or at the very least, would need updating as the most of the resources used in Jo’s presentation about advocating for Big Data were dated as well as uncovering a big hesitation and resistance of using big data in education and rather shifting towards “little data”.
We understand now that learner analytics can happen in real time which helps at risk students where one can intervene before any risk. Data informed decisions cycles, include application in learning analytics that can change things for improvement, so seems there are some serious advantages.
The Conversational Framework by Diana Laurillard is something I see as a practical reference to draw back on to include the right interventions at the right time, from establishing the level of competence to refining instruction.
Ultimately, we learned that teaching WITH technology = student voice
