Online Learning Design Theme 3: Develop
For my learning design, which covers the Learning Objective of guiding grade 12 learners creating online academic identities on a learning management system, all of the materials will need to be made by me, the designer.
InShot would be used to make the quick instructional video used as well as the purpose video used for the pre task to gain attention. These videos would be hosted on Youtube and embedded in a free, easy to use and access (data bandwidth, mobile available) learning management system such as Edmodo for the participant class to engage with and somewhat master. This will get them used to the idea of how to expect learning to happen in the HE and Continuing education space, which is ultimately, their next step. Creating the instructional videos will require me to be astute in learning about how to deliver this content instructional way that is not distracting. I can need to be conscious about how to manage essential processing in ensuring the content has been introduced so they can anticipate what to come and what’s expected, also to gain some buy in (gain attention)
It thus seems to be that I am going to use Gagne’s 9 events in which steps 1-3 will serve as my pre-task and 4-9 will include the actual activity.
Reflecting on the lesson, it is becoming clearer to me how our reflections are shaping our design plan. Quite amazed at the approach taken in this course in how we cannot escape the question and we are almost forced to think, ironically pointing to the T in TEDDIE being home grown. Nice work Shanali, Cheryl and Nicola!
Thinking about learning environments more than natural or tech space, but by rather considering:
(when): The effort to build a learning community should be made from the beginning of a course and continued throughout the term; (who): Both students and instructors should be involved in building the learning community; (where): Use both synchronous and asynchronous technologies to create a shared space in which students and instructor interact; (how): Employ various strategies to stimulate discussions; (how): Encourage both task-oriented discussions and social interactions; (how): Assign students tasks that require collaboration.
The Personal Learning Network activity was great, loved mapping it out in context:
What was huge for me today was the session on developing the Materials and considering the Learning Process. The 3 principles Dual-channels; Limited and Active got me to think about my learning design and how it should include a design that evokes meaningful learning through a thought out structure on how people learn best.
Another relieving topic concerning my design, was planning for assessment in which I got to consider my learners and how I want my learners to learn. Framed around learners where evaluation is the instructor and tools. Formative = feedback encouraging growth; Summative = end of learning what do you know are you successful or not; Formal =marked rubrick is feedback and result; Informal = what did you learn and where it is rubrick is feedback
