Do you know the Christmas Story?

Watch this video and think about how much God loves you.

Jesus is the Saviour of all.

God's plan is the best even though there are many times we don't understand fully what God is doing in our lives and in the world.

📖 Today's passage is taken from Luke 2:1-21 (click to read more)

The Birth of Jesus

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.

Do you know what Advent is all about?

This is the season of Advent. No, it is not about Santa Claus.

Advent is the period of 4 Sundays (weeks) before Christmas. and is a time when Christians prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas.

Advent means "Coming".

During these 4 weeks, we pray, and prepare to celebrate the nativity of Christ. We also celebrate the gifts that we have in our lives.

4 Weeks: Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.

🕯️Week 1 of Advent: HOPE

On this first week of Advent, we feel confident of what God promised, and that God is faithful to us.

Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus. Advent means "the coming". It is the season to pray and be prepared in our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Hope is the confidence that God is with us.

🕯️Week 2 of Advent: PEACE

This week is the second week of Advent. We are nearing the birth of Jesus Christ!!

The second week is about PEACE.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace, because He taught the world so many things about peace. Peace inside ourselves. Peace is a way we can offer light to others, who don't yet have that hope.

This second candle is also known as the “Bethlehem Candle”, a reminder of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.

🕯️Week 3 of Advent: JOY

The third candle is pink and symbolizes JOY. It is called the “Shepard’s Candle,” and is pink because rose is a ceremonial color used in church for joy. The third Sunday of Advent is meant to remind us of the joy that the world experienced at the birth of Jesus, as well as the joy that the faithful have reached the midpoint of Advent.

🕯️Week 4 of Advent: LOVE

On the fourth week of Advent, we light the final purple candle to mark the final week of prayer and penance as we wait for the birth of our Savior. This final candle, the “Angel’s Candle,” symbolizes peace. It reminds us of the message of the angels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.”

This is the last week of our preparation for the coming of Christ, and we ask Christ to forgive us for our sins and, through His grace, to create us anew when He comes.

19 December: Memory Verse

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Luke 2:14

Let Us Pray

Dear God,

Thank You for the greatest gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, Your greatest gift of LOVE to Your people.

Lord, fill my heart with such love, opening my heart to accept Your great love for me. Fill my heart and overflow it with Your love, so I may pour it out into the world through Your love in me.

Help me to love others as You have loved me – even those who aren’t so easy to love. For following you means loving others as You love me.

Thank You, Lord. Thank You for Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

I look forward to His coming.

In Jesus' name I pray; and all God's children say.... AMEN!
