What Is Pentecost?

When did Pentecost Sunday occur?
Earlier this year, we celebrated Easter Sunday where Jesus rose from the dead. 50 days after Easter Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday.
What happened on Pentecost Sunday?
The disciples gathered to worship God on Pentecost Sunday when suddenly, a sound like blowing wind from heaven came and filled the entire house (Acts 1:1-2). The disciples were touched by the Holy Spirit and broke out in many different languages (tongues) worshiping God.
Why do we need the Holy Spirit?
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us so that we can be closer to God. The Holy Spirit becomes part of us when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. He is very helpful to us!
The Holy Spirit comforts, teaches, helps us grow in our relationship with God and gives us strength to get rid of the bad habits in our lives. He also gives us power and helps us know when we've done something wrong. Of course, we need to want to grow, learn and change to be more like God for the Holy Spirit to really work with us.
The Holy Spirit also gives us many different kinds of gifts. Read 1 Corinthians 12.
