Good Friday

POWER AND LOVE

Jesus’ death and resurrection demonstrates God’s power and love to save us from sin and death.

GOOD FRIDAY... What is Good Friday?

Good Friday is the Friday before Easter Sunday. It is usually celebrated by Christians to remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

On this day, Christians all over the world remember the death of Jesus Christ and His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Why did Jesus have to die? Wasn't Jesus a good man? Didn’t He heal the sick and make the blind men see? He fed thousands of people and even brought the dead back to life! If Jesus is the Son of God, why couldn’t He save Himself? Did Jesus know that He would die on Good Friday?

These are good questions. And we have just the right Bible story for you. Maybe we’ll find the answers to these questions at the end of this lesson.

Today’s lesson is taken from Matthew 26 - 28.

Jesus is alive!

When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, the people who greeted him expected a powerful hero. They did not understand that Jesus’ power was not physical strength, but the power of love that overcomes sin and death.

Jesus had said that He would die, and on the third day would rise from the dead.

Because He rose from the dead on Easter Sunday,

JESUS IS ALIVE TODAY!

WHY is it called Good Friday?

Jesus did not die because the people killed Him. He planned to die.

That is why we say the day that Jesus died is Good Friday instead of Sad Friday.

Why? Let’s find out from our memory verse (let’s read it aloud together):

'For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life'

John 3:16

Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10).

He suffered and died on the cross to fulfill God’s promise to us, that we may live forever with Him in Heaven. (John 3:16, Proverbs 8:35). This is also why Good Friday is so good!

As God was with Jesus in His suffering, He is also with us when we go through bad times.

When Jesus was dying, he proclaimed God’s forgiveness from the cross. He will forgive us for all the sins and hurts we had done unto others.

Jesus is the Good News everyone had been waiting for! When He was on earth, Jesus set an example for us to follow by performing miracles and healing -people. He shared about God's love freely with everyone. Jesus showed us that we are to remember Him and follow His example of caring for and serving others. Even today, we can share this Good News of God’s power and love with everyone we know

PRAYER

Dear Lord, I have sinned. I am sorry for the things I have done wrong, and I don’t want to do them again. Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. I believe that Jesus died and rose again so that I can live with you forever. Thank You Jesus for loving me so much. I want You to be the Leader and Lord of my Life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

QUESTIONS FOR US TO THINK ABOUT

During the Last Supper, Jesus humbly washed the feet of his disciples. Who can we show our care to, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic?

● Before Jesus was arrested, He knew that He was going to suffer and die, and even though He had the power to change it, He didn’t. Why not? What does that teach us about Jesus and His love for us?

Can you think of a time it was hard to follow Jesus?

(Parents, this is a great opportunity to share with your kids about your own faith journey! Faith isn’t always easy and kids will learn so much from your own experiences with God.)

Who can you share the good news to? How will you do it?
