Below are discussions I completed during my field experience as a practice of reflection as well as addressing specific instances in the classroom with students. The topics include: a profile of the multilingual students in the classroom, meaningful activities, cooperative learning/grouping strategies, professional growth, advocacy hours reflection, and philosophy of teaching.
The SOLOM (Student Oral Language Observation Matrix) assesses the social and academic language development of an English learner. It is an oral assessment that is conducted using a matrix rubric. It is completed in two parts, the pre and post-SOLOM, ideally at the beginning of the semester or year and then again at the end of the semester or year. I have included my pre and post SOLOM here in support of my understanding of the process of language acquisition.
