When an actor embodies a character, they perform their role through nothing more than their actions on stage; these actions are not expressions of anything "on the inside" of these actors. Some philosophers think that gender is the same: our gender is not an expression of who we are "on the inside," but is constituted entirely by our actions and words. Is gender really just a performance? Or is it something more? We will explore these question through improvised theatre and embodied roleplaying.
