3 October 2024 - 7 November 2024
Classroom 22 (Cendana), Yale-NUS College
Brought to you by the Yale-NUS Philosophy Major and the NUS Buddhist Studies Group, the 2024 Buddhist Philosophy Speaker Series features seven invited speakers who will be joining us in person and virtually from Singapore, Europe, and North America. Each speaker will be sharing their current research in Buddhist philosophy with our student participants from YHU4279 Advanced Topics in Buddhist Philosophy.
Advanced Topics in Buddhist Philosophy is a research seminar at Yale-NUS College which brings together Yale-NUS undergraduates and NUS graduate students who are currently pursuing independent research on topics in Buddhist philosophy. In November 2024, their works will be presented at the Topics in Buddhist Philosophy Research Symposium, and their edited works will appear in a small book volume in 2025. If you are an undergraduate or graduate student who is not part of the course but are interested in submitting a piece of work for the volume, do refer to the application process here.
This year's student research topics span across Buddhist metaphysics, ethics, epistemology, and aesthetics; and our invited speakers will be speaking on topics that complement these research areas. Some focus will also be given to providing tips and insight into working on independent research. It is for this reason that we have invited speakers who are at various stages of their Buddhist philosophy research journeys, including recently graduated students, PhD students and candidates, independent scholars, and established professors in the field.
While this speaker series has primarily been organised as an opportunity for our student researchers to learn from our invited speakers and mentors, we welcome visitors to our course during these dates. Should you be interested in attending our talks as a course visitor, do browse our talk descriptions and individually register for each talk.
