The Kiama Probus Choir -
What a great afternoon we had on 21/5/24 at our Tuesday meeting.
Firstly we were entertained by the great Kiama Probus Men's Choir under the directorship of Wendy Leatham.
And, our second half speaker was one of our members Helen Fahy who kept us greatly entertained with recollections of her life as a high school French teacher.
It was très magnifique ...
High Tea at Warilla Sporties ...
Kim writes ....
Today (Sunday 8th October) was high tea at Warilla Sporties.
On arrival 7 members were greeted with a glass of pink wine which was delicious.
We sat and chatted until a wonderful choice of foods was delivered to our table. Hot choice were sliders, spring rolls, sausage rolls and mini quiches.
Sandwiches of ham and cheese or cucumber and cream cheese. Fresh scones with cream and jam. Mini caramel slice, passion fruit cupcakes, macarons and a crumble cup. With a hot cup of tea or coffee to finish off. We were all so satisfied with this outing and hope to do more in the future. We finally managed to waddle out after eating so much.
Cockatoo Island Tour ...
Diane Phillips writes ...
What a beautiful day we had, the weather was perfect, warm with the harbour sparkling.
We arrived on the Island at 11.30 to be met by our guide Sue, who took us up to the top of the Island where she told us about the convict history, the convict buildings as well as anecdotes about the inmates including Captain Thunderbolt.
There were beautiful views of the harbour as we made our way back down to the cafe for lunch and the return to the Quay.
We returned home on the train to Oak Flats arriving about 4.30.
EXCITING NEWS FOR 2023
We have moved into the new U3A meeting venue for 2023 at the Warrigal Community Hall at No 1 Acardia St, Warilla. This is where we will hold the majority of our our activities and our Tuesday afternoon meetings/talks.
The hall is part of the Warrigal village so we will be sharing it with the remaining Warrigal residents. We need to be mindful of that. The village is planned for refurbishment and our tenure is for 12 months only at this stage.
It is a lovely bright and airy hall. There is air-conditioning so we won't need our knee rugs! The kitchen is small but very modern and we are sure that it will meet our needs well. Remember to bring your mug for a cuppa.
At this stage we do not have access to the hall on Mondays and Wednesdays. Therefore, some of the activities which have previously been held on these days have been be rearranged. Please refer to the Activities Courses Page for those details. Some activities are held 'off site' such as the Life Writers Group that has been meeting very successfully at the Warilla library.
We were more than pleasantly surprised by the number of members who came on 7th February 2023 - enrolment/registration day. There were traffic flow issues which will not happen next year. So please bear with us just a little longer as we streamline final details of our operations at the hall.
Our first Tuesday meeting for 2023 in the new hall... we had a very nice afternoon tea after an informative talk by Peter Moran about some of the early Shellharbour history. It was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and establish our U3A routine for the year.
Tuesday Talks
On 28/5/24 in the theme of U3A we were entertained by the very talented local musician and radio personality Mark Matthews. Mark came along with his Redkite mascot Sebastian and gave us a bit about his history and his musical journey while fundraising for the Redkite Organisation which supports children with cancer.
Thank you Mark, it was a great session, enjoyed by all.
Here in the carousel are a few older photos from years gone by.
If you click on the down arrow in front of the Past Activities page label, that will expand the page menu and you will be able to access more of our old activity photos.
MELBOURNE CUP 2022
Roving Reporter Kevin’s take on the Melbourne Cup Activities …
Approximately 40 members enjoyed an afternoon of fun and laughter at our Melbourne Cup function. The bubbles were flowing and there was food aplenty.
Sixteen hopefuls entered in the Joe’s Horses Handicap over the testing 20 metre distance. There can only be one winner and that was…..DI BOURNE!! Her name will be engraved on the perpetual shield and as well she took home a substantial cash prize [ha ha]
Fascinators and festive frocks were the order of the day when it came to the Ladies Fashion on the Paddock. After the judges deliberated for some time, eventually the winner was announced and first prize went to ….CLARE FARRELL sporting a large themed hat.
In the Men’s Fashion on the Paddock there was a clear winner, that being Jim Chapman, resplendent in his pith helmet and naval attire.
There were also multiple sweepstakes winners as well as many lucky door prizes handed out.
Sincere thanks go to the Melbourne Cup Organising committee who did a fabulous job in making the day so memorable.
