A great time was had by all...

What a fantastic afternoon we had at this year’s Melbourne Cup festivities.  The hall and table decorations, well dressed punters, delicious food and good humour all added to the ambience.  Thanks must go to the hard working committee and the hard working members who helped in the background to make the afternoon such a success.

John Croll (Emcee) detailed the program of events.  Lunch was a feast with a huge selection of finger food and cakes.

Fashions On The Field followed with two categories for men and women.

Best Dressed Woman:  Winner was Debbie Tate, runner up Joan Fell and in third place Wendy James.

Best Hat:  Winner was Glenda Grimshaw with an original design of her own creation, runner up Pam O’Leary and in third place Di Phillips.

Best Dressed Man:  Liam Farrell as a colourful racing identity, runner up Phil Prentice and in third place Jim Chapman.

Best Tie:  Graham Hick.

There was even a prize for those men too shy to participate, and Bill Johnson was the lucky winner of the Booby Prize.

Then we got down to the serious business of the Flat Oaks Cup heats and final.  Everyone putting in valiant efforts and determined to win.  There can only be one winner though and that was Kim Lynch.  Ian Oxley came a close second, followed by Graham Hick in third place and Dawn Gilmore in fourth.

The actual Melbourne Cup race paled in comparison.  It was a terrific afternoon enjoyed by all.  Can’t wait to do it all again next year.
