Taringa station opened as West Milton on 14 June 1875 being renamed shortly later. In 1886, the line through the station was duplicated. In 1960, the station was rebuilt as part of the quadruplication of the line. The line was electrified through the station to Darra on 17 November 1979. Between July 2007 and January 2009, the station was upgraded.
Taringa station was named after the homonymous suburb of Taringa which is a combination of two aboriginal words which are tarau meaning stones and nga meaning made up of. Together they mean place of stones.
Taringa station has four platforms consisting of two island platforms. Platform 1 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for inbound services. Platform 3 is for peak Ipswich and Rosewood services and platform 4 is for peak Caboolture, Kippa-Ring and Nambour services.
Taringa station has two entrances. One is on Pike Avenue and one is at a walkway leading to Harry Road and Briggs Road.
Taringa station doesn’t have any disability access.
