The original Coomera station opened on 24 January 1889, when the line was extended from Beenleigh to Southport. The original site of the station was in a linear park on Heathwood Drive beside the Pacific Motorway, now in Upper Coomera. The station opened at its current location on 25 February 1996, when the line was rebuilt from Beenleigh to Helensvale. It was extended to Nerang on 16 December 1997, then to Robina on 31 May 1998 and to Varsity Lakes on 13 December 2009. In 2017 the line was duplicated from Coomera to Helensvale to allow additional capacity in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
