Beenleigh station was opened in 1885 at its original location with the opening of the line and it served as the terminus of the line until 25 January 1889, when the South Coast line opened to Southport. On 30 June 1964 the South Coast line closed and Beenleigh became the terminus again. On 3 November 1984 the line was electrified. The current station building opened on 12 March 1988 in time for World Expo 88 and the original station building was relocated to Beenleigh Historical Village. On 25 February 1996, the line was again extended as the Gold Coast line opened to Helensvale.
Beenleigh station itself consists of an island platform. Both platforms are used for commencing and terminating services. Platform 1 is also for services travelling to Varsity Lakes and platform 2 is also used for express services to Brisbane City and Domestic Airport services.
Beenleigh station has two entrances. One is at the transit centre and the other is at the nearby shopping centre.
Beenleigh does have disability access.
There is a transit centre adjacent to the station. There are bus routes serving nearby suburbs. The routes that serve the station are 553, 562, 563, 565, 566, 567, 728 and 729. NSW TrainLink coaches also serve the nearby transit centre to and from Casino and Grafton.
