Mia Bolognesi

Hi! My name is Mia Bolognesi and art has always been a big part of my life, as well as my family’s. I wanted to explore how I could capture the history and stories of my family through my artwork. A few of my ancestors had done the same and I found it to be a beautiful way to pass down memories so that they didn’t fade. Each piece in the portfolio focuses on the life of one member of my family. I tried to highlight the parts of their lives that I was inspired by. In one of my works, I drew the interracial marriage of my great grandparents on top of news articles that showed the racial battles during that time. In another piece, I drew my great grandfather out of the words he and his wife wrote to each other while he was in the air force during World War II in Italy. The pieces definitely have variety in how they look and the moments they represent, but they all come together as a unit. My family’s strength, love, and happiness is shown in my portfolio, and I hope that this artistic documentation continues through more generations.
