Hi, I’m Emma Singleton and I’m a senior at DSA in the AP 2-D and Design pathway! My inquiry question this year is “What connects humans to each other? Is it tangible or is it an abstract idea that brings us together”? I’m interested in how and why humans make connections with other people, so I want to explore what aspects of people’s life, whether they’re real or perceived, help us make connections. I’ve always wondered why humans feel the need to connect with other people and my artwork was my attempt at finding answers. I explored my inquiry question by categorizing my work as either focusing on a tangible connection or an abstract connection. My later works attempt to mix the two ideas together. I usually come up with an idea through a personal connection I have or through searching the internet for ideas. One artwork is based on the idea of touch and how it creates a physical connection and anchors people together and another piece is the opposite of touch and focuses on emotions and how that connects what people feel. Overall, my artwork is my attempt to show all the different ways that we, as humans can be connected.
