My name is Cindy Sigaran, I've been going to DSA since the 6th grade and I've taken 2D art since 8th grade. This year as a senior my art was based off of the question "What factors influence an individual's motive to immigrate and what emotions come into play throughout it?". As a Hispanic, I've heard many first hand accounts from family and friends about their journey to America. Immigration is an ongoing important topic that has many components to it. To me immigration can help rebuild the lives of people who want something better. Throughout my pieces I experimented with symbolism, personal reflections, and other ideas to form the basis of each work. I took stories from people close to me and used those stories to display emotions and concepts. One of my pieces followed a concept regarding the moon, my mother told me that she used the moon as a sign of hope throughout her journey. In this piece I made the surrounding path of the people dark while highlighting the moon. In another piece I used the well known symbol of the Statue of Liberty to question the reality of what this freedom can mean to people.
