Laudatory status is a recognition of academic excellence awarded at graduation to students who have achieved high academic distinction. It is granted in three levels—cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude—each reflecting increasing levels of academic achievement.
Eligibility Parameters:
Must earn 60 graded credit hours at Loyola (does not include pass/no pass credit hours)
The credit hour requirement means that typically only undergraduate degree seeking students are given laudatory status
Must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.50
3.50 - Cum Laude (with honors)
3.70 - Magna Cum Laude (with high honors)
3.90 - Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors)
Laudatory status is determined at the end of a student’s final term after all coursework has been completed and all degree requirements have been met.
The Dean's List is an academic recognition for students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance during the fall or spring 16- week semester. It reflects a student's commitment to their studies and acknowledges their ability to excel while balancing various personal and professional responsibilities.
Eligibility Parameters:
Must be an active enrolled SCPS student
Must be enrolled at a full-time status (12 credit hours or more) for the semester
Must earn a minimum 3.70 semester GPA
Students are named to the Dean’s List at the end of the fall and spring semesters, after all final grades have posted. Named students are sent a communication via their LUC email.
Alpha Sigma Lambda is a national honor society representing top non-traditional students who demonstrate scholarship and leadership, with chapters in more than 300 institutions across the United States.
Eligibility Parameters:
Must be an actively enrolled undergraduate degree-seeking student
Must have at least 24 graded credit hours completed at Loyola University Chicago
Be in the top 20% of eligible students. Typically, inductees for Loyola’s Chapter have a 3.8 or higher cumulative GPA but this can vary each year. The minimum requirement is a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
Eligible students are invited to an induction ceremony held annually in December at the end of the fall semester. Invitations typically go out in mid-October.
Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX) is a national honor society that recognizes outstanding academic achievement among paralegal students. Membership in LEX is a prestigious honor that highlights students' dedication, hard work, and mastery of their studies. LEX inductees represent the top students in their graduating class, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in the paralegal profession.
Eligibility Parameters:
Must be a paralegal student
Rank in the top 20% of the graduating class
Achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher
Students are invited in the fall to participate in the annual December induction ceremony, where they are formally recognized for their academic achievements.
Alpha Sigma Nu (AΣN) is the national Jesuit honor society that recognizes students who embody the core principles of Jesuit education: scholarship, loyalty, and service. It is one of the highest honors awarded at Jesuit institutions, acknowledging students who have distinguished themselves academically and in their commitment to service.
Eligibility Parameters:
Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at time of induction (Sept/Oct each year)
Undergraduate students must have a junior or senior standing
Must rank in the top 15% of class
Eligible students are invited to apply for consideration in April of each year. Invited students must submit an application and one letter of recommendation. Students selected for induction will attend the annual induction ceremony held each fall.
The President's Medallion is one of the most prestigious awards at Loyola University, recognizing students who exemplify exceptional leadership, scholarship, and service. This distinguished honor is awarded to the university’s most outstanding students who not only excel academically but also demonstrate a deep commitment to leading and serving others.
Eligibility Parameters:
Currently enrolled undergraduate student expected to graduate within the upcoming academic year
Must rank academically in the top 25% of the class
Exemplify a combination of outstanding scholarship, leadership, and service
Must be a person of integrity and good reputation
Must manifest leadership in serving others through involvement in student organizations or volunteering in community settings
Eligible students are invited to apply for consideration in June of each year. Selected students are typically notified in September.
