Fine motor skills help a child engage in their environment and participate in activities in the classroom and at home. Fine motor, as opposed to gross motor, is used for precision tasks and requires strength and control of the little muscles in the hand. Often, children have not had the opportunity to use and develop those little muscles enough to have the dexterity needed for precision tasks that are expected of them at school.
