Did you know there are nearly 100 STEM organizations at UTA? The SCC's goal is to build a better science community at UTA, so we encourage you to join other groups and attend their events too! STEM is multi-disciplinary! See the full list of student organizations below! Or see the spreadsheet here.
Don't worry if you are not a member for the group. Most groups welcome everyone and everybody regardless if you are a member at any time during the semester! Follow the SCC on Instagram/GroupMe and we will often share other group events on there!

UTA is an R1 univeristy meaning that research is very important. This page has general research resources that are helpful to any STEM student. You can participate in research as a freshman or as a senior and many labs do not require prior experience to join.

You can set an appointment with a research advisor and they will best match you with a research lab! Additionally, you can apply for the many different research programs this office offers. Keep in mind that many of these programs have different eligibility requirements.
The I-Engage Mentoring Program brings together graduate students and postdocs with undergraduate students for a summer-long research experience.
Sometimes just emailing the professor is enough to get into research! Really! Most professors are very friendly and want students to join their lab! Send an email and you may get your opportunity that way. See list above for contact info. If they don't respond or say no, try a different professor until you find one that accepts you. It might be less scary emailing if you met the professor during a networking event or if you had their class. Joining a student organization is a great way to meet professors.
Every week each College of Science department hosts a professor to give a talk about their research that is open to the public. Sometimes they invite students for lunch. This is one of the best way to start networking. Dates and times vary by department. See each department website for info. Usually, you will get an email every Monday from the College of Science that lists each one for the week.
You don't necessarily have to do research at UTA. There are hundreds of opportunities out there! Below are a few resources to help you get started. See your discipline specific page for more resources. The SCC Instagram also often reposts opportunities, so please make sure to follow us!
A Google Drive worth of flyers and business cards of various companies, foundations, and schools offering internships and research opportunities in STEM fields. This is thanks to UTA's SACNAS chapter. There's a lot of great things here!

Keep in mind that many of these programs have different eligibility requirements and deadlines.
The College of Science is always looking for volunteers! They need your help as a UTA student to help with recruitment events, tours, panels, or sharing your experiences with incoming students. All events need between 3-5 students.
If interested, directly email COS Academic Recruiter Kevin Rodriguez (kevin.rodriguez@uta.edu) or email SCC president Manny Chavez (manuel.chavez2@mavs.uta.edu).
