The UT Arlington chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) was started in 2022 to provide a forum for researchers in various fields to come together for academic, community service and social activity at UT Arlington. SACNAS leads with culture and identity as the means to achieve true diversity in STEM. Although the name honors the founders, SACNAS welcomes everyone who supports its mission.
The Purpose of our chapter is to
Give researchers access to a national network of students, professors, and professionals in the SACNAS organization.
Offer students interested in research information about opportunities such as possible mentors, conferences and internships.
Allow graduate students the opportunity to mentor and share their experience with undergraduate students.
Further the work of, improve the effectiveness of, and enhance the public understanding of and appreciation for Chicanos, Latinos, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other historically marginalized groups in science.
Cooperate with other individuals, organizations, clubs, and other groups whose purposes include the achievement of public understanding for Chicanos, Latinos, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other historically marginalized groups in the sciences.
Promote student recruitment and retention of Chicanos, Latinos, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other historically marginalized groups in science at the University of Texas at Arlington.
