The Hertz Fellowship provides financial and lifelong professional support for the nation’s most promising graduate students in science and technology. Hertz Fellows receive up to five years of funding, giving them freedom from the traditional constraints of graduate training and the independence needed to pursue groundbreaking research. In addition, fellows take part in mentoring, symposia, and workshops with an influential community of more than 1,200 peers, creating lifelong connections that will accelerate your career.

Eligible Applicants must:
be college seniors, first-year graduate students, or in a gap period preparing to apply to graduate school;
intend to pursue a PhD in the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, or engineering;
intend to direct their studies toward understanding and solving major, near-term problems facing society; and
be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

To be considered for a Fellowship (CLICK HERE TO APPLY), applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Must be a full-time first gen student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited U.S. college or university. (Note: Per funding guidelines, eligibility for this grant is limited to domestic students. International applicants are not eligible.)
Must be in good academic standing.
Applicants must show significant financial hardship through one or more of the following:
Eligibility for federal financial aid (FAFSA) or Pell Grant
Proof of financial hardship (e.g., household income, education loans, student employment)
A personal statement explaining financial hardship (e.g., loss of income, unexpected expenses, family responsibilities)
Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
Funds must be used for educational expenses (e.g. fees, books, housing, basic needs, professional development opportunities and activities, transportation related to school, and other education-related expenses).
