Are there any membership dues?
There are NO membership fees! 😀 Joining the SCC is fun and it's free!
When does the SCC meet?
We were just approved by Student Organizations after months of re-applying, so we do not have a finalized schedule. Currently, we are planning on having one event per week. See our events tab to learn more!
What kind of events does the SCC do?
We do both professional and social events for the purpose of helping you as a student grow academically and socially. In the past the SCC has done workshops on getting into Research, Professor Seminars and host our annual Discussions with the Dean event. We also volunteer with the College of Science with events like Orientations, Student Panels, and helping local high school students. We will also plan to have social events for all that love science and enjoy things that are entertaining, silly, and educational. Come learn a new science fact and make a new friend!
I want to get into research, does the SCC help with that?
Yes! The goal with the SCC is for you to get to know STEM students and faculty from several disciplines. By networking and talking to people, we hope that you will be able to better get a research opportunity. We invite professors to give talks about their research and we invite the Office of Undergradute Research to give presentations. Our plan is also to provide you with opportunities outside of UTA such internships or research on other campuses. Additionally, we have created a spreadsheet of ALL College of Science Labs at UTA under our Resources page. Check it out!
What if I can't make it to the events because I have class or another commitment?
No worries! The plan is to upload slides, notes, etc. for each of our events here on this website and in our Teams for you to see. Join the Teams channel to join events virtually! Hopefully these resources will be helpful to you. Additionally, the SCC will also advertise other STEM org events at UTA and maybe you can make it to one of those!
