Mobile Data Collection: Ona
Ona and OnaCollect are apps that are used to take photos and record locations of sampling points throughout the various neighborhoods included in a SaniPath deployment. The following guidelines will outline how to install and use the app for SaniPath's project needs as well as how to use the One website to visualize the data.
Download ONA Collect
● From the Google Play Store: search, select, and download ONA Collect (Figure 1).
● At the prompt, allow ONA Collect access to the phone information (Figure 2).
Configure App (To use ODK collect start at step 2 below )
1. Open the ONA Collect app and sign on using the project email and password associated with the ONA account (Figure 3)
2. Check the login by going to the General Menu by tapping the three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner of the home screen (Figure 4) and selecting “General Settings” followed by “Configure platform settings”.
3. From the Configure platform settings screen select URL and check that https://odk.ona.io is set as the URL.
4. From the Configure platform settings menu, select Username and make sure that the username associated with the project account is shown.
5. From the same menu, make sure the password shown matches the password associated with the project account.
6. Go back to the General Settings page and make sure both of the Auto Send options are not checked.
7. Press Back to return to the main menu.
Download Forms
1. From the main menu, select “Get Blank Form” (Figure 5).
2. You should now see all SaniPath forms available for you to download. Select the appropriate forms that will be used on this device and tap “Get Selected” to download forms (Figure 6).
Collect and File Data *
1. To enter data, select Fill Blank Form and select the form you would like to complete (Figure 7).
2. Navigate through the form by swiping left to advance to the next question (or right to go back).
a. Most questions are required and will not let you swipe without providing an answer.
3. At the prompt to take a picture, select “Take Picture”
a. The camera will open, allowing you to take a picture of the sampling location/lab results
4. When the form is complete, it is saved to the phone but will not automatically be sent to the server. In order to send completed forms to the server, connect to Wi-Fi and select “Send Finalized Form”. Select the forms you would like to send and then click “Send Selected” (Figure 8).
Analyze and Visualize Data
1. On a computer, go to www.ona.io and select Login in the top right corner
2. Login to the project account using the sign-in prompt (Figure 9)
3. After signing in, you will be brought to the project dashboard page
a. Select the project associated with the SaniPath account for your deployment (Figure 10)
4. Once in the correct project, select the form containing the data that you want to visualize (for example, if you would like to view the data for potential sampling locations, select the form “PotentialSamplingLocations”) (Figure 11)
5. The first thing you will see is the project overview page (Figure 12). This is where you can find information about project activity, create data exports, view the project description, and view links for entering data using webforms, ODK/KoBoCollect, and to import csv file data.
6. To spatially view the project data collected for the selected form, click “Map” in the toolbar at the top of the page (Figure 13).
a. This will show each data collection point spatially plotted based on GPS coordinates collected during the project activities
b. You can change viewing options by hovering over the “Layers” tool (red box in Figure 13) to change the map background (Figure 14). You can also choose to display GPS points by variable values by selected “View By” in the top left of the map (Figure 15)
c. In the map view, you can click on individual form submissions (single colored dots on the map) to view the data associated with that specific GPS point. It shows the data collected for each variable in the form (Figure 16). You can also select “Edit” to edit the data for the selected point or select “Delete” to remove the data from the project.
7. To view the form submission data in table form, select “Table” from the toolbar at the top of the page. In this view you can see the data in a table format with the headers containing each variable name and the data for each collection point shown below (Figure 17). You can select “View” or “Edit” from the table to view individual data points or to edit data on the submission form.
8. To view photos associated with the project data collection form, select “Photos” from the toolbar and a gallery will be shown containing all of the pictures taken, labeled by their ID in the data table form (Figure 18).
9. You can also view collection information as well as data from the forms in a chart and graph format by clicking “Charts” from the top toolbar. This will allow you to view information related to the Metadata as well as specific questions contained in the data collection form (Figure 19).
Exporting Data
1. ONA allows users to export data for use in other spatial analysis and visualization platforms, such as Google Earth and Google Maps.
2. To export data, return to the “Overview” tab by selecting “Overview” in the project form toolbar (Figure 20).
3. In the top right within the My Data Exports window, select “Prepare Data Export” (Figure 20)
4. Select the file type (typically kept as .csv) and then click “Export CSV File” (or other file type, Figure 21).
5. To download, either click “Download Link” or “Go back to exports list” and click on the file name associated with the most recent export (Figure 22 & 23)
* Using Webforms for Collection
1. On a computer, go to www.ona.io and select Login in the top right corner
2. Login to the project account using the sign-in prompt (Figure 9)
3. Navigate to the correct form by selecting the relevant project and then the form of interest (Figure 10 and 11)
4. Under the Submit Data frame, select Using Webforms and note the link (Figure 24)
5. On the mobile phone, open the web app (Google Chrome) and select the URL text box (Figures 25 and 26)
6. Enter the Webform URL seen in Figure 24 (https://enketo.ona.io/x/#YR3e in this example, Figure 27)
7. Check the form, as shown in Figure 28
8. Select the three dots in the top right of the page (Figure 28) and choose Add to Home Screen from the dropdown menu (Figure 29)
