You have arrived at your next nature destination. If you look down to the right side of the QR-code, you will see a log lying down vertically. If you look closely you will spot interesting patterns going through the bark. If snow is covering the log, please wipe of the snow until you see the patterns
Emerald Ash Borer, originated from Asia, it is now a highly destructive invasive species to Canada. They lay their eggs on tree trunks, and when the eggs hatch, the larvae (the baby ash borer) will eat the tree trunk in an amazing pattern. They make these swirling patterns as they come out of the tree trunk, as you can see on the log. These Emerald Ash Borers can eat up to 3 trees per day. This can cause lots of big problems of trees constantly getting killed from Emerald Ash Borers. Overall, Emerald Ash Borers are a very fascinating creature that reproduces in a very different way than other species, but through this process affects the nature around them.
