Look over to the tree stump, above it is where the plant is. The plant that you are looking at is called the European Spindle tree. Just a warning to not eat it, because it IS poisonous (it contains certain toxins that are harmful to humans), but birds like to eat them! This tree can grow up to 9 meters tall, isn’t that nuts??!! People are around 1.6 meters tall, so this tree (given proper conditions), will tower over you, by a long shot. The tree can live for up to 100 years! The little berries on the tree look like mini oranges too, but again, please do not eat them, ever, only birds can enjoy them.
Here is a picture of what they should look like. But right now the pink shell will probably be brownish and dry.
They are also related to the Wahoo, which looks like this.
This self-guided tour is a project of Mrs. Nye's grade eight class at Moraine Hills Public School.
