Chickadees are beautiful and cute birds that fly around forests! We at Moraine Hills feed the Chickadees daily! At this stop of the tour, we will teach you how to feed them, in 4 super easy steps!
You will want to buy some Black Sunflower Seeds. These seeds are the best for feeding chickadees, but you can also buy normal sunflower seeds.
Extend your hand a little bit past the bridge, so the birds will be able to see the seeds.
The calling sound to get chickadees to come is “pst-pst-pst-pst”. It sounds like you are whispering to someone. Make sure to have a loud voice so the chickadees can hear you from far away!
It may take some time, but when the Chickadees come, don’t move. You can still call them, and they will slowly jump from branch to branch toward you until they eventually fly onto your hand, grab a seed, then zoom off away to eat it. Once the Chickadee is done, it will come for another seed!
You're now a master at bird feeding! It’s that simple! This works better during the winter, because food is scarce, and the Chickadees will come. Also, make sure not to spill any seeds, or else the chickadees will go for those. Good luck!
