THE 2023 SUMMER EDITION
Welcome to the 2023 Summer Newsletter Edition.
The theme for our current edition is "Past and the future." We present two articles - one critically considering our past practices, and one looking forward to innovative use of technology. Ms. Sidhu discusses biases in past and current assessments of bilingual children in Speech-Language Pathology and presents ideas and methods for appropriate diagnostics. Drs. Balachandran and Burdick discuss the use of teleaudiology to improve hearing health outcomes.
This edition features our Spotlight video interview with Dr. Rajinder Koul, Chair of the Department and Houston Harte Centennial Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, where he discusses AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and shares resources for South Asian languages.
We present two articles - the first is a Speech-language pathology article: "Biased Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology in SLP" by Ms. Sidhu, and the second is an Audiology article: "Teleaudiology to Improve Hearing Healthcare Outcomes" by Drs. Balachandran and Burdick.
Student Corner with Ms. Nair. She answers some questions about why she chose Speech-Language Pathology and what she likes about the field.
