Spotlight Interview with
Dr. Prakash Boominathan

Prof. Prakash Boominathan is the President-Elect (2023-24) of the Indian Speech – Language and Hearing Association and an Expert member (2022-25) of Speech and Hearing Committee of the Rehabilitation Council of India. He is currently the Principal of Faculty of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research - SRIHER (Deemed University), Chennai, India. He also serves as a Senior Consultant Speech Language Pathologist at Sri Ramachandra Medical University Hospital. His area of clinical focus and research is voice disorders with emphasis on professional voice care. 

Prakash Boominathan was a Fulbright scholar (2005-06), and subsequent to his return from the USA in 2006, he established the voice clinic in Sri Ramachandra University Hospital. This included sensitizing, developing and supporting interdisciplinary teamwork with ENT Surgeons, SLPs & musicians. He is an alumnus (1995-2000) of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore and received his Ph.D. in 2008 from Sri Ramachandra University. 

Prof. Prakash was recognized with the “Teaching Excellence Award” in 2019 by SRIHER(DU). The Indian Speech- Language & Hearing Association in 2023 bestowed on him the prestigious Dr. N. Rathna Oration award for his exemplary services and research contributions in the field of Speech Language Pathology.
