Our STEM sub-committee was created in the 1st Semester of the 2021-2022 school year. They serve as the guiding force for STEM at RTMS. Their first task was the creation of a STEM mission and vision as well as a school-wide Engineering Design Process. In September of 2021, we introduced the first RTMS EDP. Through the fall STEM units, we discovered that this EDP was very extensive and difficult for students to remember. We began the revision process in November and introduced the updated EDP to the students and teachers in January of 2022. The sub-committee is continuing to work on improving the STEM process for both students and teachers as well as strengthening STEM partnerships within our community.
The sub-committee consists of the following members:
Dr. Wes Dickey, Principal
Amber Bunce, A.P.
Lauren Gentry, ILT
James Conaway, STEM connections
Holly Spivey, 8th grade Science
Jenna Biggs, 8th grade Science
Phillip Philpot, 7th grade Science
Michele Cole, 6th grade Math
John Osborne, 7th grade Social Studies
Judy McPherson, 6th-8th Math Remediation
This is the first version of the EDP created by the STEM sub-committee in September of 2021.
The sub-committee discovered once the EDP was implemented in classrooms that we neglected
to include a research step so it was placed under revision and updated.
This is the current copy of our Engineering Design Process after feedback from students and teachers that the 8 steps in the previous EDP were too difficult to remember.
This is a copy that we used as a graphic organizer to help students understand what each step might look like.
