Wind Power
7th grade students designed and built windmills as part of their study on Africa
Windmills were tested at varying wind speeds

Moon Colonies
6th grade students used moon surface information to develop and design their plan for a moon colony and discussed the potential colonization of the moon as planned by NASA
Graveyards
7th grade students studied burial and death rites around the world
They researched biomes and the impact of graves and burial have on the environment
They designed and constructed a replica of their graveyard biome.
Water Filters
8th grade students have developed plans for water filters using everyday items

Helping Hands
7th grade studied chemical compounds which might cause birth defects related to missing limbs, they created prototypes of a prosthetic arm and then heard from a guest speaker who has a prosthetic leg.

During the Fall of 2021, 8th grade students used the results from their YouScience career clusters. Based on this list, they choose a career that they were interested in and conducted research on this career. They worked in their ELA classes and during FOCUS block to create presentations and visuals. On October 15th, 2021, these 8th grade students presented to our 6th and 7th grade homerooms. 7th grade students were divided into career clusters and viewed presentations that were within their career cluster. 6th grade students received a variety of presentations as they have not yet completed the career cluster part of their YouScience evaluation.
In the Spring of 2022, all students who participated in the presentations will be eligible to attend a field trip to a location within their career cluster. Examples of these field trips include the CDC, Shaw Industries, Yanmar, and many others.
2.3 Learners participate in STEM competitions and/or exhibits at the school and beyond or participate in STEM extracurricular clubs or activities.

During the 2020 – 2021 school year, Red Top Middle School manned our first robotics team.
Students competed in the First Lego League Lego Robotics competition and earned a
First Place finish in the Core Values competition!
Miner Robotics has grown exponentially for the 2021 – 2022 school year! This year we will
man and compete in the following:
First Lego League (FLL) team
First Tech Challenge
Vex IQ – All girls team
SECME team
In 2022 – 2023 we are already planning to add a Vex EDR team and an Underwater Robotics team.
