3.1 STEM educators collaborate as multidisciplinary team to plan, implement and improve integrated STEM learning experiences weekly.
At Red Top Middle School planning for each STEM unit follows the same format:
Grade Level discussion on expected Standards to be addressed for the given time frame.
Brainstorming begins.
General themes emerge.
Follow up meeting scheduled for one week following to firm up the plan and theme.
Meetings occur bi-weekly as a grade-level with ILT and/or Administration to continue whole team planning and cohesion.
Pop-up meetings are called as needed to continue to refine the expectations and processes.
Throughout all of this process, collaborative teams meet continually to discuss and plan subject-specific tasks.
This process developed organically beginning with the 8th grade team as they first began implementing STEM-focused units as a team. It has become the norm and works well for the teachers and grade levels at Red Top Middle School.
With a smaller staff we are able to be in contact with all members of the grade level with little notice. For the most part, teams work very well together and a "call to arms" can be heard during planning periods frequently!

During the 2021 – 2022 school year:
Leadership (Administration and Teacher Leadership) is attending the STEM Leader Trainings sponsored by Bartow STEM.
There will be 4 teachers (Beth Ballenger, 6th grade – Phillip Philpot, 7th grade – Jenna Biggs, 8th grade – Holly Spivey, 8th grade) participating in the STEM Innovation Academy.
February 2022 – Lindsey Vick (7th ELA) and Amber Bunce (AP) attended the STEM showcase at Adairsville Middle School. - Lauren Gentry (ILT) attended the Cass Middle School STEM showcase.
March 2022- Dr. Bob Young met with our 7th grade team to provide professional development, resources, and feedback. - Lauren Gentry (ILT), Karlene Boyd (6 Math), and Lisa Tackett (7 Math) attended a STEM walk at Tapp Middle School in Cobb County.
During the 2020-2021 school year:
Nichole (Baines) Harr, 8th grade Math, participated in the STEM Innovation Academy.
Lake Phillips, 8th grade ELA, invited to present at Cobb STEMapalooza on Coding in the ELA classroom.
During the 2019 – 2020 school year:
Gary Boulier and Caitlin Berresford attend STEM Forum in Athens, Georgia and STEM Cobb Academy.
On October 28th 2021, Amber Bunce and Lauren Gentry presented on "Informal STEM learning Opportunities" at the Bartow STEM Innovation Academy. Ballenger, Philpot, Spivey, and Biggs attended as participants.
