UPDATE ON DRAG RACING Jan 13,2025
Good News!
Thanks to the efforts of John Wray and Bill Engler, along with the generous donations from several of you, our drag racing equipment has been ordered. It is expected that the equipment will be received before the end of this month.
Once received by our drag racing team the equipment will be fitted with extra protection around ramps and a heavy base for the starting line tree, constructed by Gary Beake at the Wood Shop. Jerry Lundberg will test the computer software and printer, making sure the sensors are communicating with the starting line tree and the computer. Other members of our team will be marking out the drag race track and the proper placement of the equipment so that the communication is reliably repeatable from race to race and week to week. The full team will be testing and practicing with the equipment and cars so that we can be assured that the races can be held as smoothly and efficiently as possible. You can be assured that your drag racing team is working hard to make this a fun and inclusive racing experience. All of that to say that these efforts will take a few weeks and Opening Day will be announced when test runs are complete. I will be keeping you updated.
To that end, the team unanimously agreed to field three classes of race cars that are designed to make sure everyone and their cars have places to race within the three classes. All classes will require cars that are 1/10 scale. Here are the classes:
Class #1 Drag Cars
These are cars that are specifically designed to be only drag racing vehicles either right out of the box such as Traxxas Drag Slash cars. Traxxas has other dragsters as does Team Associated and maybe others; or drag cars built by racers among us from the ground up and designed as only drag cars.
Class # 2 Stock Cars
These are cars that are the two wheel vehicles that we all run legally in races on Tuesday and Thursday. One exception that will be allowed is that these stock cars can install drag racing tires known as slicks in the rear and thinner, skinnies in the front and still retain stock chassis status.
Class # 3 Modified or Unlimited
These are cars that don’t fit in the previous two classes. As long as these cars are 1/10 scale these vehicles can be 4 wheel drive, larger multi-cell batteries, larger motors or other modifications.
We anticipate that these classes may change in the future as we learn more, but this is a good start.
Start planning now for your drag racing experience, including which class you will be racing in. Please feel free to call me with questions at (925) 997-8397 or email me at jkmessenger@gmail.com
Our drag racing will be fun. Just be a little patient with us as we make sure that it will be.
