Day 7

Na to Base Camp of Ramdung Peak - 3740 meters to 5000 meters

That is 13,713 to 16,404 feet!

After breakfast at 7:00, we watched the porters load up for the trip to Camp 1 or Base Camp. To our surprise, they were the women of the Rolwaling Valley and they were carrying our huge packs up to camp! Today was a tough day, but these women seemed like it was a walk in the park. They offered some of the boys some rice wine, but the boys were smart to decline!

We got to our lunch spot in an old yak corral. It was a protection from the wind and drizzle. As we ascended, we got into the clouds and rain. We really couldn't see a whole lot and it was probably a good thing since all we did was climb steeply today. As we neared the camp, we descended into a perfect little bowl of protection and the tents were already up and ready for us to go. We all rested a bit. After our rest, we headed to the dining tent for cards and meals. All the while, it sleeted/rained/snowed off and on through the night. We had swiss rosti for dinner and it was great!

No one needed oxygen. We slept!
