5th Grade Math

Week: May 11-May 15

End of the Year Assessment: Click HERE for the exam.

Week: May 4- May 8

Math – Complete all IXLs: Goal 85 or higher (4 IXLs total)

1. Monday: Math IXL: BB.3 “Classify Triangles”

2. Tuesday: Math IXL: AA “New! Sort polygons into Venn diagrams” (This is one is located under AA.9)

3. Wednesday: Math IXL: BB.10 “Classify Quadrilaterals”

4. Thursday: Math IXL: BB.10 “New! Identify the relationships between quadrilaterals” (Please make sure you are doing the IXL with this title!)

5. Friday: MANDATORY ZOOM @ 9:30am-11:45am “MATH REVIEW KAHOOT GAME”

Perimeter and Area

Remember the formulas...

  • Perimeter = S + S + S + S

  • Area = L x W

Find the volume

Formula for Volume is V= L x W x H

Division with decimal quotients

Remember to add a decimal and a zero to the dividend if you have a remainder. Don't forget to place that decimal as part of your quotient!

Week: April 27- May 1

Math – Complete all IXLs: Goal 85 or higher (5 IXLs total)

1. Monday: Math IXL: J.2 “Decimal Division Patterns Over Increasing Place Values”

2. Tuesday: Math IXL: J.3 “Division with Decimal Quotients”

3. Wednesday: Math IXL: S.4 “Divide Money Amounts: Word Problems”

4. Thursday: Math IXL: EE.17 “Volume of Cubes and Rectangular Prisms with Decimal Side Lengths”

5. Friday: Math IXL: EE.12 “Area and Perimeter: Word Problems”

Parentheses and Brackets

Make sure you do everything inside the brackets first. If you have parentheses inside the brackets, then do parentheses first.

Order of Operations

Remember the order of operations: PEMDAS

First PARENTHESES, next EXPONENTS, then MULTIPLY OR DIVIDE (whatever comes first reading the problem left to right), and the last step is to ADD OR SUBTRACT (whatever comes first reading the problem left to right).

Week: April 20- April 23

Math – Complete all IXLs (Goal 85 or higher)

1. Monday: Math IXL: Search J73 “Evaluate numerical expressions with and without parentheses”

2. Tuesday: Math IXL: Search TVY “Evaluate numerical expressions with parentheses and brackets”

3. Wednesday: Math IXL: Search MEY…You will see Math skills “Filter by:” select 5th Grade. Then click on, “Which value makes the equation true?” (It will be the first one under “5th Grade”)

4. Thursday: Math IXL: P.1 “Multi-step word problems” (This one will be a TEST grade.)

Divide Whole Numbers and Unit Fractions

REMEMBER YOUR RULES! Change your division sign to multiplication and "flip-flop" your second fraction.

Multiply Fractions by whole numbers using models Part 2

Multiply Fractions by whole numbers using models

Remember: If the numerator (top number) is greater (bigger) than the denominator (bottom number) then you need to ask yourself how many times can the denominator go into the numerator (which will be your whole number)?!

Week: April 14- April 17

Math – Complete all IXLs. Goal 85 or higher (4 IXL’s total)!

1. Tuesday: Math IXL: M.7 “Multiplying fractions by whole numbers: choose the model”

2. Wednesday: Math IXL: M.8 “Multiply fractions by whole numbers using models: complete the equation”

3. Thursday: Math IXL: N.4 “Divide whole numbers and unit fractions”

4. Friday: Math IXL: N. DIVIDE FRACTIONS “New! Divide unit fractions and whole numbers using AREA MODELS” (Make sure you are doing the one that says AREA MODELS at the end…it should be right above N.4)

Expanded notation

This video demonstrates expanded form using decimals and fractions.

Don't get confused

When doing IXL assignments some problems may not have parenthesis using expanded notation. You can write parenthesis to help you!

Week: April 6- April 10

Math – Complete all IXLs (Goal 85 or higher): The student applies mathematical process standards to represent, compare, and order positive rational numbers and understand relationships as related to place value. (7 IXL’s total)

1. Monday: Math IXL: G.4 “Place values in decimal numbers” AND G.3 “Understanding decimals expressed in words”

2. Tuesday: Math IXL: G.5 “Convert decimals between standard and expanded form”

3. Wednesday: Math IXL: G.16 “Convert decimals between standard and expanded form using fractions”

4. Thursday: Math IXL: G.10 “Compare decimal numbers” AND G.11 “Put decimal numbers in order”

5. Friday: Math IXL: G.7 “Round decimals”

Add/Subtract mixed numbers with unlike denominators

When you are typing your answer on IXL please make sure to PUT A SPACE between the whole number and fraction! They will count it wrong if you do not put a space between the whole number and fraction!

Add fractions with unlike denominators

Remember to find your LCM first, set up your problem, and simplify your answer!

Week: March 30-April 2

Math – Complete all IXLs (Goal 85 or higher)
