Bioprosthetic Heart Valve (General Design)
Bioprosthetic Heart Valve (General Design)
An artificial heart valve is a one-way valve implanted into a person's heart to replace a heart valve that is not functioning properly. They can be classified into three main types: mechanical heart valves, bioprosthetic tissue valves and engineered tissue valves.
Bioprosthetic valves are generally made from animal tissue attached to a metal or polymer support. (Source: Wikipedia)
The medical device industry’s R&D innovations have fascinated me ever since I was a student. It is a rewarding career for Mechanical Engineers to design medical products that improve patients’ lives.
In this project, I have modeled a bioprosthetic heart valve with a tri-leaflet design in SOLIDWORKS and rendered in Visualize. (This is based on the Abbott Trifecta ™ GT Aortic heart valve).
Credit goes to EMBS FIU for the helpful tutorials, they are an incredible resource for medical device design.
There are only limited CAD resources available online for medical devices. This project is my attempt to enhance my knowledge of medical devices and passion for working in the medical field.
