According to ‘The World Counts’ statistics, 100 million tons of plastic is used every year, out of which 10% ends up in the oceans. (10 million tons).
Reducing plastic consumption and contributing to a sustainable planet is the need of the hour. There have been plenteous reusable and Eco-friendly bags manufactured and implemented by consumers for grocery shopping (using paper, cotton, jute, and polypropylene materials).
In this project, I attempted to amalgamate the benefits of sustainable mechanical design and ease of operation to design a simple retractable shopping cart in Fusion 360.
A cardboard surface design rests on the trolley base. It has built-in paper compartments (of various shapes) so that you can put in multiple grocery items (milk bottles, cereal boxes, bread packets, chips, and cookies). The surface board can be made of various renewable materials like bamboo or cork.
When you are done shopping, simply open the cart front door, pull by sliding the cardboard box, and place it directly in your car. No need of manually lifting each reusable bag from the cart for arranging in the car. More importantly, it can be reused multiple times and is recyclable.
