Planning for a 2-Year School

CHECKLIST for ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE
within Virginia’s Community College System

o Complete the on-line application at your community college of choice

- For New River Community College visit www.nr.edu
- For other community colleges search internet addresses
- If you have taken dual-enrolled classes, you already have an application on file with NRCC

o Take Virginia Placement Tests (VPT) if needed

- English & Math
- Offered at RHS in fall and spring
- Offered at NRCC throughout year on Dublin campus and at Mall Site
- May be exempt based on high school GPA and course-work

o Complete FAFSA

- Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Everyone needs to do this step
- Application opens October 1
- Attend a FAFSA Workshop at RHS
- Will need parent & student tax information

o Seek scholarships & complete applications

- See Scholarships
- ACCE program application at nr.edu/ACCE (opens in October)
- NRCC Scholarship at nr.edu/sa (opens in December)
- Search for others at www.fastweb.com
- Search for others at www.bigfuture.collegeboard.org

o Register for NRCC classes in April

- This will happen at RHS before you graduate
- You will have your fall schedule of classes in-hand
- For other community colleges you will register during summer orientation

o Graduate from RHS!
