The cargo ship SS Anne B. pulled away from the East Dock, setting sail for mainland Costa Rica 120 miles away to refuel. The dock was small and poorly sheltered - the dock workers never liking to hang around long after the ship had left, especially when it was getting dark.
Perhaps due to their haste, or the dying light, the workers didn’t seem to notice the small shadows darting amongst the crates. Perhaps due to the roar of the crashing waves against the concrete dock, they didn’t seem to hear the high pitched chirping, or notice the rustle of the bushes leading into the jungle.
