Muldoon had been keeping an eye on Nedry ever since the night of the storm. He didn’t trust that programmer. Hammond didn’t want to involve the InGen board in all this, foreseeing a full-blown investigation that could cause more delays. He wanted to deal with it internally, on the island. And Muldoon suspected he’d found the thief.
Muldoon caught up to Nedry out the back of the Visitor Centre. “I’m taking Drs. Grant and Sattler out into the park to see the Rex, since they missed it last time.”
Nedry tucked a bag behind his back sheepishly. “And?”
“As far as our records show you haven’t actually visited the Rex Paddock. I’d say it’s a good idea for staff to remind themselves just what we’re dealing with here should anything… go wrong. Risk Assessment.”
Nedry gulped. Muldoon continued. “As chief warden, I’m ensuring all employees are fully briefed on the implications of a security breach.” He leaned in. “The full implications.”
“Ok.” Nedry reluctantly agreed, visibly intimidated.
The Tyrannosaur let out an deep earth-shaking roar as it emerged from the treeline. At the other end of the clearing, and behind 10,000 volts of steel, Muldoon held up a flare. The group watched in awe.
Grant and Sattler were lost for words. Finally, the T. rex. The huge animal approached the fence, transfixed by the glowing flare.
“You sure we’re safe here?” Ellie asked, tense.
“Positive. The Rex has brushed up against the fence in the past and learned that’s it’s a bad idea the hard way. This is how we lure her out if we need to check up on her. A lot safer than going in there.”
Muldoon sidled up to Nedry. The Rex tracked him, its gaze following the flare. “You like to live dangerously?” he asked Nedry.
Nedry, sweltering under the gaze of the Cretaceous super predator, replied weakly. “Not really.”
“There’s been a bit of trouble lately. Should the fences go down again, who knows what could happen. You’ve seen on the cams what she can do to a goat.”
Nedry gulped, trembling.
“I’m just ensuring we’re all on the same page should there be any more glitches in our system.” Muldoon smiled, and walked off.
