May 8-11, 2014 in Philadelphia Mark your calendars for the 2014 reunion celebrating the 50th anniversary of Georgetown's landmark (watermark?) victory at the 1964 Dad Vail in Philadelphia. The reunion will take commence on Thursday, May 8 and end Sunday, May 11 in Philadelphia.
12pm to 5pm: Trip to Bryn Athyn, the historic Swedenborgian center http://bahistoricdistrict.org/ where Dan Ebert is buried. (Outing organized by Mark Pisano; you will be hearing from him soon)
6pm to 10pm: University Barge Club (from which the ’64 oarsmen rowed) for a picnic dinner with beer, wine and soft drinks/water. Peter McGrath is a UBC member and was able to snag the deck and main room. Bravo! 45 have signed up for this event, so far. http://www.universitybargeclub.com/
9am-12pm or so: Group gathers at 9 am for art museum tour with Peggy Nead King. Peggy will brief us over coffee/tea about some of the things we’ll enjoy. The spectacular new Barnes Museum http://www.barnesfoundation.org/ and the impressive Philadelphia Museum of Art http://www.philamuseum.org/ open at 10am where we will see 19th paintings of rowers and other American realists’ works (and a whole lot more). Peggy will update us later on her plans for our cultural and much appreciated edification.
Noonish and later: Come to the Georgetown tent at the Schuylkill for beverages and snacks and to watch the races. http://dadvail.org/
6pm to 7:30: Meet at the Aberdeen Dad Vail tent for a presentation of awards to the rowers of ’64. The tributes and engraved silver trays are given by Jack Galloway and Jim Hanna, Dad Vail Board leaders (who have our backs covered all the way—somehow, we end up with the best tent location!). A lovely cocktail reception follows.
7:30pm to 10pm: Travel downstream to the Waterworks Restaurant for dinner on the river. At this point, we have 64 signed up for the dinner. Mark Pisano is the evening’s MC. http://www.thewaterworksrestaurant.com/
10-ish or earlier: Meet at the Georgetown tent to watch the races.
12:pm: Rowby of ’64 HW oarsmen. Peter Blyberg is setting the boat.
Afternoon: Enjoy races, food and each other at the GU tent.
6pm: Reception and Dinner at the Acorn Club in Philadelphia, a private club that we will have to ourselves that evening. www.acornclub.org During cocktails and dinner we will enjoy slide shows by Paul Barbian and Ben Domenico. At dinner, Peter Blyberg will present a tribute and book to Inge Cadle (he sent you an email about each of you submitting a tribute and or memory of Inge and Caron to him) at dinner. Fred King is the evening’s MC. At this point we have 74 attendees.
We may wish to gather at the Hyatt Bellevue for breakfast, in preparation for some long goodbyes. Church, cultural tours and farewells to follow.
