Robert O'Brien, 2013
I interrupted "studies" at GU to join the first wave of Peace Corps Volunteers and served in Jamaica in 1962-63, after which I returned as a part time student and received my BSFS in 1967. The same year I married Amelia Comas Bacardi from Santiago de Cuba. 1969-1979 We lived in Kingston, Jamaica where I worked in the construction field. Our son Kevin was born in 68,daughters Ana Maria in 70 & Marlena 74. After a brief exile in Florida 1979-81 we returned to Jamaica but to Runaway Bay on the North Coast where we had a small hotel.
1986 we moved to Arlington Va. ; I managed investments and began to take an interest in my wife's family business. In 1992 Bacardi Ltd was formed in Bermuda as a holding company for formerly separate Bacardi companies and I became a Director and continued until 2006. I am now retired and living in Charlottesville Virginia, except summer in Salisbury Connecticut.
My 2 interests ( Amelia says obsessions) are the environment of the Caribbean and the plight of people in her hometown of Santiago de Cuba. I am a Trustee of The Caribbean Program of The Nature Conservancy. All 3 children are married and we have 9 grandchildren.
