Domain 5: Assessment and Reporting

Evaluation and Observation

Assessing and reporting are the focus of the fifth domain. It discusses the ways in which the teacher plans for and makes use of the various assessment methods. In this section, you will also see how teachers evaluate their students' learning and how they plan to use any suggestions for improvement that come from their evaluations.

Teachers use a various of evaluation strategies and tools to track and document students' growth and accomplishments in this domain. In my internship, we provided printed materials for the students even though they have their own books. I prepared printed materials a week before both different grade levels. It’s really hard to prepare for my 3 classes, especially in the assessment part. In their printed material, I provided a list of questions for their "Let’s Try" if they have an idea for the topic. I utilized a questioning evaluation in both my online and face-to-face classes to measure students' knowledge and understanding and determined who was grasping material quickly, who was participating actively in class discussions, and who needed additional help. My student’s weakness is the Filipino subject. They are unable to use the Filipino language in a simple self-introduction. I encouraged them to speak in Tagalog in expressing their thoughts and ideas during my discussion. I couldn’t have expected that my class would be too silent compared to my social studies class, where they will ask questions for clarification and ask questions every time I say, "Is there any questions?" This is also a means for me to determined how well they are grasping the lesson and following along with the class conversation. To show appreciation for their efforts and to encourage further development, I frequently provided compliments and prizes. As a teacher, I am proud of my students every day. They are trying their best to improve in our Filipino class. It makes my heart overwhelmed that they are learning from me. When I gave quizzes to my students or check their books, notebooks, and printed materials, I always made a note to address the things they need to improve on their own, this is my way of providing feedback on my students' improvements and areas for improvement.

Therefore, as a teacher, it is important to give feedback on your students' achievements and areas that need improvement. In that little way, you can help your students, and it helps them to improve their confidence, especially my students who are having difficulty in Filipino subjects. It also helps them to be motivated to learn every day.
