Based on current regulations, our district will open Tuesday, Sept 8 in the hybrid model.
Following all the safety guidance and mandates as is required by NYS and having all students attend a full day of school on our typical schedule would lead to students returning to school in a model that would be impossible to transport students and very difficult educationally including but not limited to having to use large group settings, the lack of student choice in coursework, an inability for students to recover credits and in some cases extending time until graduation for students. Therefore, based on the regulations and guidance, we would be forced to continue our staggered start and end times in a fully in-person model until social distancing regulations are relaxed.
PK students: All PK students would attend as normal (AM/PM sessions)
K-5 Students:
All grade K-5 students would return to school every day in smaller class sizes (3 sections at most grade levels) to allow for social distancing. This scenario forces our district to run on a shortened school day schedule to ensure we meet the guidelines set forth for students, classrooms, transportation, and personnel (8 am – 1 pm).
6-12 Students:
Grade 6-12 students will be in cohorts in the largest rooms in the building separated by grade level (2 sections each) and social distanced, but will run on a shortened schedule to ensure we meet the guidelines set forth for students, classrooms, transportation, and personnel (10:00 am – 3:15 pm).
Unlike our hybrid plan all students would attend each day.
Teachers will move as much as possible resulting in most classes being taught in these larger rooms, but there will be students who are pulled from the large groups to other rooms by teachers to allow for individual course selection.
Electives/Specials:
Electives/Specials will need to me re-imagined.
Elective/Specials teachers will be pushed into the grade level classrooms as much as possible especially in grades K-10 where most students are taking the same required electives/specials.
Grades 11&12 will take the majority of their electives remotely in order to allow student access to the courses/credits they need.
BOCES will run as scheduled with am and pm classes meeting daily.
Special Note: The guidelines make traditional PE, Band, and Chorus extremely difficult to run as was typical (social distancing for these classes is extended to 12 feet by regulation) so these teachers will push into classrooms and offer lessons related to their subject matter, but they often will not be performance based.
Students with Disabilities:
Students with Disabilities at all grade levels are to attend school in-person daily, but can opt out by signing off on services after speaking with the CSE chairperson.
Cohorts:
During the day, students will be kept in cohorts (the same classroom), as much as possible.
Teachers will move at all levels instead of students moving, as much as possible.
Students will have bathroom breaks, drink breaks, and movement, as much as possible.
Masks:
Masks are to be worn as much as possible, but are mandatory whenever within 6 feet of another or whenever it is expected that you would be within 6 feet of another (moving in the classroom or outside the classroom, hallways, bathrooms, buses, main office, nurse, etc.).
