To evaluate the product, the list of requirements was used to see if they are met or not. The requirement list was divided into four categories, which are functionality, user experience, design and (cognitive) ergonomics. These topics will be addressed separately for this evaluation as well.
These requirements are addressing the specific functions the product should have. The product consists of the watch as well as the redesign of the application for the phone. The main functionality it should have is creating appointments. This is achieved with the application. A quick shortcut is created by adding the button for it on the main page. The co-designer does not have to think about setting a reminder with the new product. His live location is connected to Google Maps and thus the device will account for the travel time. A reminder will be set automatically.
To check whether the requirements of the pairing process and connection are met, a realistic prototype should be created. Likewise, it cannot be checked at this moment if the battery life is at least 24 hours.
Some requirements of this category can be already evaluated, while others need to be tested. These requirements will be tested with the user study test plan, described on the next page. The test will be executed to check if the first four requirements are met.
The requirement about the manual for the set-up and troubleshooting is not fully met, since this manual is currently missing. However, this could still be implemented in the future.
It can already be concluded that the last three requirements are met. There are no additional features implemented to make the product as simple and intuitive as possible. Moreover, the co-designer explicitly told the group not to implement more functions.
The requirements for the IP44 and shock protection can not be evaluated at this stage. To determine whether these requirements are met, materials and attachment methods should be selected for the different parts of the watch. In further research, this will be looked into more.
To see if the final design fits into the style of the participant, the style collage made with him was used. Key features that can be derived from the style collage are functional, simple, organic and old-fashioned. Then looking at the product, it can be concluded that certain aspects fit with these keywords. The interface is simple and functional with no additional unnecessary information. This is combined with a leather watchband with a traditional connection method, so it suits the organic and old-fashioned keywords. Moreover, the last requirement is met as well since the watchband can be detached.
The product is definitely portable because one is able to wear the watch.
As said before, further research is needed to select materials for the product. After that, the requirement about its desired weight range can be evaluated.
The interface of the redesigned phone application indeed looks similar to the iOS calendar. The main features and aesthetics were kept the same with small adjustments customised for the co-designer. This decision was intentionally made to make sure that the participant can easily operate the device. The pin buckle strap has standard dimensions in the design, which means that this requirement was met.
