Being an engineer and having been part of countless construction projects over the past decades, Reddy Kancharla is extremely familiar with the tasks and responsibilities of almost every professional and skilled worker in construction sites.
On that note, Kancharla shares his thoughts on what construction companies should look for when hiring a construction manager.
Management and leadership skills
When hiring a construction manager, a construction company should look for an individual with management experience, explains Reddy Kancharla. The manager will be managing people, therefore should show that they know how to lead a group to accomplish the tasks required to complete a project.
Team-oriented
Being team-oriented is just as important as a construction manager’s leadership qualities. He should know how teams work and should be able to work well with others. Applicants that are all about themselves have no room in a construction team since they have a penchant of alienating team members and lowering the morale of everyone around them.
Problem solving skills
The best construction managers are quite familiar with many, if not most, of the challenges construction teams face. As such, Reddy Kancharla believes that they already have a set of realistic solutions hardwired into their brains, ready to be used when the need arises.
Reddy Kancharla is a civil engineer with more than 25 years of experience, accomplishing various projects in civic construction, geotechnical solution, and construction QA/QC. For more articles like this, click here.
