Artifact 1: Parent teacher practice
Rationale:
Performance indicator 8Q, "establishes respectful and productive relationships with parents or guardians and seeks to develop cooperative partnerships to promote student learning and well-being."
This is a copy of a practice parent teacher conference we did for one of our education classes. I have also participated in real parent teacher conferences. These are a phenomenal way to get to know parents and communicate and build relationships with them so that they are later in your corner too when trying to best support their kid and your student. I realized how important this can be when I had a student who refused to participate in class and his grade was suffering because of it. I already had a relationship with the parents so it was nice to be able to get them in the loop and get their support to help him best learn moving forward.
Artifact 2: Field trip to Mezcla
Rationale:
Performance indicator 8T, "identifies and utilizes community resources to enhance student learning and to provide opportunities for students to explore career opportunities."
This is a picture of when we took students to a local restaurant called Mezcla (just a picture of my drink for student privacy reasons). There the got to interact with their owner and play Lotetía, a traditional mexican bingo game, an they got to try the authentic food there as well. I have been learning that learning in the classroom is very important, but it also is important to have the students get out and experience what we are teaching them as well.
