The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
Artifact 1: Lesson plan
Rationale:
Performance indicator 2K, "engages students in the processes of critical thinking and inquiry and addresses standards of evidence of the disciplines."
This is one of my many lesson plans. You can see here that I think about how important standards are and find the ways to incorporate them into what the students are learning. It is important that the students are able to engage well in thinking critically and I ensure they can do that and know their standards in this lesson plan. I learned about how important it is to think about what the standards are and how I can show the students what these are.
Artifact 2: Interdisciplinary project
Rationale:
Knowledge indicator 2D, "understands the relationship of knowledge within the disciplines to other content areas and to life applications."
This is a lesson plan I made from a different discipline where I incorporated how to show how to research reading an article. This shows that I know how to incorporate knowledge from multiple disciplines and show the students who it can apply this to their everyday life. Students can know how to find the articles and analize if they are good or not. I learned it is important to be able to teach students how to do these things from different disciplines, even if it isn't your central one.
