This artifact was a component of SPED 551, Inclusionary Practices. This was a group research project and presentation about transition services to students with disabilities. Students who are transitioning out of high school are faced with many challenges and decisions as to whether or not to join the workforce, go on to post-secondary school or something else. They need to be informed of what services are provided to them outside of the schools. For this project I worked collaboratively with my peers with the goal of informing educational professionals of the opportunities for students with disabilities that will be transitioning out of the public school system and supports available to these professionals in designing individualized transition plans that address students’ unique needs. Collaborative planning involved research into IDEA transition planning mandate, available services offered, planning considerations and challenges. I feel that this project meets Master Educator Outcome #8 because when working with students with disabilities, there is collaboration among the student, parents, general and special education teachers and service providers. This project gave me the opportunity to collaborate with my peers and compile necessary information to provide to educational professionals so that they may be an advocate for their transitioning students.
