This artifact was a component of PSED 521, Seminar in Secondary Education II. It is an annotated lesson plan focusing on meeting the needs of diverse learners. It is lesson that makes content meaningful to students, allows them to be actively engaged in learning, and gives students of all abilities access to the content. In this class, there is a student who is deaf, a student with an emotional disturbance, a student with a specific learning disability, 2 students with ADHD and one English Learner. As a teacher I need to find ways to meet the needs of all students in my class. When creating this lesson, I conducted research into ways that I could meet the needs of all students as well as students with specific needs. I can accomplish this by presenting the content in a variety of ways that makes the content accessible to all students. I can also give the students the tools they need to overcome barriers so they can be successful. Some examples of what I can provide for my diverse learners would be: videos with closed captioning, flash cards, pictures, modeling, partner or group work, graphic organizers, movement. This artifact meets the Master Educator Outcome #1 because it allowed me to demonstrate how I can create learning experiences which make content meaningful to all students.
