This artifact was a component of PSED 520, Seminar in Secondary Education I. It is a lesson plan that I created that is student-centered, engaging, motivating and includes non-traditional assessments. Students engage in internet inquiry and conduct independent research. The lesson allows for autonomy because students get to choose the topic that they want to research. The final assessment is a non-traditional assessment which is a Press Conference where students can conduct a debate based on their research. This is an oral assessment where I can get feedback about what they know by listening to what the students say when they are conducting their Press Conference. In this lesson students have the opportunity to work collaboratively to complete their final assessment. The students use a checklist that allows them to self-regulate and stay on track with the final assessment. This artifact meets Master Teacher Outcome # 2 because it is a structured lesson that is constructed around engagement, active learning, autonomy, differentiated instruction and assessment that meets the needs of diverse learners.
